Ke'e Beach Sunset

SURPRISE!  They were enclosed by the wave as it came in suddenly.
The waves were fun to run from as they were totally unpredictable!  We wrote in the sand with sticks and eventually watched the water wash over our art.  Instantly, the canvas was clean, made new.  I love this idea of the pre-wave words and pictures being washed away and the opportunity to begin again.... a second chance to change it for the better or to simply start anew.

Mermaid Pool!

Our place had a pool, so when we "tired" of the beach, those who still wanted a swim were able to head to the pool! We were always the only ones there.  (note the crossed legs.... the pool was transformed into an imaginary world of MERMAIDS!)
Even at rest, she's still in character!  :)

The Na Pali Coast

Day 3 brought us to a most beautiful, treacherous, gorgeous, slippery, rocky, amazing and muddy hike.  "Watch your step!"  I loved it!!
Hanakapi`ai Beach Trail

To our left we found water falls and steep luscious tropical terrain.  To our right the trail gave way to more shrubbery descending to cliffs where we could hear the thunderous pounding of the waves crashing against the rocks.
At the start, we thought we may be hit with a rain shower, but midway through the hike, the clouds parted and the sun appeared.  The green colors suddenly popped and we stood in awe!

Near the end... looking a little rugged!
I found this little movie that shows the hiking trail.  However, the dry paths from the movie were RED MUCK for us!  And the calm beach at the end of their trail was actually a wild raging sea for us!

Anini Beach!

Day 2 led us to the beach once again. The water was so calm and the kids waded way out and could still touch. The adults went for a snorkel and spotted many fish, eels and a Grandfather of a sea turtle!

My hat got smashed in my luggage, so the girls teased me about wearing a silly hat.  I must be a bit like my dad as their comments made me want to wear it all the more!  Love you, dad!
(dad PROUDLY sported knee high sports socks in conjunction with all his shorts during my HS years... slightly embarrassing at the time)

Big Sandcastle!

Me: What's the first thing you want to do when we get to Hawaii?
CC: Build a SUPER BIG Sandcastle!
G: Me Too!
We present Day 1 in Hawaii!

CC wrote her name in the sand and asked for a photo.

In contrast, this is as close as G got to her letters.

Wild chickens EVERYWHERE!

Mmm!  Shaved Ice!

CC received a "on the house" coconut from a friendly (may I just insert here that everyone seemed truly friendly in Kauai) vendor.  The coconut milk was cool and tasty, but no one enjoyed it more than G!  She sipped it dry!  Opa carved the coconut open and we later enjoyed a dessert of mango, fresh coconut and whipped cream!

Funny Photos 2012!

In no particular order, the girls helped me pick a few photos. Some are laugh out loud and others just make us giggle. Please have fun laughing through our year with us!

A Little Walrus Fear!

Our "Buttocks" pumpkin!

(note upper right corner)

Above photo sent to me at work... so I was able to laugh especially hard!
